Apothecary East is an independent bar and restaurant, conceived and created by an experienced team, led by James Williams and Rohit Chugh, both of whom share a love of Tokyo’s culture and cuisine.
Traditionally an izakaya is an informal Japanese bar where guests come to unwind and enjoy drinks alongside small plates, served as and when ready. This relaxed form of service is unlike other Japanese styles of eating, and food is usually shared by everyone at the table.
The pair wanted to bring that same charm and hospitality to a larger setting in East London and so launched Apothecary East in 2021. Housed in an iconic building, the name is a nod to its history, as it was originally a Victorian dispensary.
Menus showcase modern Japanese sharing feasts and whilst the cooking is progressive it is also respectful to traditional flavours, ingredients and techniques.
Their passion for food is undeniable but there is also an emphasis in equal measure for their carefully crafted cocktails, with all infusions and cordials meticulous made in-house.
Above all else, a warm and friendly welcome is at the heart of this operation. This is a venue for all to enjoy, at any time of day and any day of the week.
